The Zealot Guard Artist Series 1

March 25, 2012 - by baykiddead
Waaay back in August of 2011, the teasers for Abz' Zealot Guard started coming out. All we knew at the time was the 6 artists who'd be participating, that the figures would be gundam-like, and that they'd be awesome. When the series was finally released, awesome was just the beginning. Having a cohesive series like this, from such names in the game is a rare treat.

The Latest Pepetz ~ Darth Loveder

March 24, 2012 - by baykiddead
Is there a pop culture icon from the last 30 years that's as ripe for customization and re-interpretation than Darth Vader? Me think not. Here's the latest send-up. Submitted for the open invite paper project, Pepetz, this incarnation of the Dark Lord spins it 180. Full of love and bespeckled with hearts, Darth Loveder as designed by bur2Qul, gives a whole new take on the whole heavy breathing thing. Get yours HERE.

Estúdio Juba

Came across this little piece of awesome via the Nice Paper Toy page on Facebook. I began to track it to the creator in a crazed pursuit, while at the same time clearing a space on my shelf. Alas, twas not to be. Apparently it's not available. Alas is another word for, "it sucks." But still a wonderful toy, inventive, original and very cool to look at. Hopefully one day it'll make it's way onto that shelf. Torture yourself with his other works you can't have HERE.

Piracy and the General Blueprint for Douchebaggery

March 24, 2012 - by baykiddead
A good friend of mine, and one of the icons in the paper toy world recently received an email from a douche bag. A recently USED douche bag. An ensuing conversation took place with Chris of Cubeecraft fame in blue and le douche in red. A word of warning though, if you get easily offended by grade A a**hats, you might want to sit down or hide the ammunition. Transcript:

Oh Look, a New Bear from Shin

March 23, 2012 - by baykiddead
The latest in a now, year-long series of bears from Shin Tanaka. This is the 31st edition, 32 if you count his one day only April Fool's edition, or 29 if you don't count the 3 that no one has and as such doesn't really exist. Whatever. Shin has a new bear out. Where's my exacto..?

Now Twist the Knife, Shin

March 23, 2012 - by baykiddead
There was a moment in time a few months ago when Shin "released" four of his Br. bears in such quick succession that the first three became "available" and then "retired" in the blink of an eye. Fate being what it its, they were some of the cooler models in this very sweet series he's put together over the last calendar year. But that's all he's released to his faithful horde of fervent admirers.

Ashley Wood, Marko Zubak, and MCK walk into a bar...

March 22, 2012 - by baykiddead
Ashley Wood's ThreeA toy Heavy Bramble sold out for a reason, and left a lot of folks more than bummed they didn't get one for their collection. Well, now you can change that. A word of warning though, that's a paper toy you're looking at in the above snap. A custom of a custom you might say.

Re-release of Fin and Gil by AG Papertoys

March 22, 2012 - by baykiddead
Alexander Gwynne is an enterprising young chap. Having won England's Ambition AXA Award at the end of 2011, AG has been going full speed ahead in an attempt to transform his love of paper into a full-time gig. Part of those efforts includ a re-vamp of his brand, and re-releasing some of his old toys with a newer and improved design. The most recent of these is his one sheet template of Fin and Gil. A father and son duo forced by high rent to flee the swamp and make a go of it in the city. Hey, it's a story we can all relate to.

A new Kickstarter project has come down the pipes. Part paper toy, part techno geek gadget, all awesome. Actually, the paper toy part in and of itself is amazing. Featuring three of my all time favorite paper toy artists, Dolly Oblong, Tougui, and Guillain le Vilain, and serving as my introduction to the effort of Mr. Kone, these paper toys are much more than meets the eye.
