Shin Tanaka's Latest Bear v.20

September 12, 2011 - by baykiddead
The last Shin bear I wrote about was version #18, did you get #19? Remember what I said about blinking and missing it? Well, here we are now at #20 and it's quite lovely. Really digging the spring vibe as we head into early fall here in the Midwest. With so much of our color dead or dying, this is a great way to put some of it back, on your shelves at least. Another great place for this bear to work its cheerful magic could be your office domicile, or even your child's room. This one is going to look great in my daughter's collection.

Still More from Marko Zubak!

September 12, 2011 - by baykiddead
To paraphrase from James Brown of course... but it still applies. Marko Zubak continues to churn out beautiful, viable paper. If this post seems like a bit of dejavu, well... This time it's to let you know Marko has released an exclusive for the art blog Be Creative of Die. A mandate by the way, we'd all be well advised to adhere to. There's also a pretty cool interview with Marko [in Spanish]. You can find it all, including the link to the free template, HERE.

Momo by Marshall Alexander

September 10, 2011 - by baykiddead
You know the phenomenon that occurs when two incredibly good looking beings produce an offspring? It's almost too cute, right? Well, it's happened again. This time on the shelf of Marshall Alexander. His two absolutely adorable paper toys, Heidi and Zeke have taken some time off from scaring kids from under the bed and inside the closet and produced, Momo. And Momo is as cute as all get out.

Nick Knite's Exclusive for K1X

September 9, 2011 - by baykiddead
Nick Knite, the brilliant mind behind Funk Food has teamed up with the German based basketball and streetwear label K1X to release what has to be one of the coolest versions of Nick's MechaBunny, an iconic paper figure if ever there was one. The sweet part of this release isn't so much the toy, which at first glance I want as badly as any piece of paper I've come across, it's what it stands for.

When I Grow Up

September 1, 2011 - by baykiddead
Despite all the evidence to the contrary, this is not necessarily a "me first" world. Well at least not totally, yet. One of the few taking the battle to selfishness is Graham Wiles, aka The Grand Master Urb-Ski. He's a South African paper toy engineer currently working towards his BTech Honors degree in Visual Communications.

September's Curiosity Calendar

September 1, 2011 - by baykiddead
Wow. September is here, already? If the calendar says so... And as long as the days are going to fly by without a care, might as well mark them in style, right? The folks over at Curiosity / Go Scout Creative, have you covered. This month's edition has a certain reminiscence vibe to it, as if the calendar is reminding you of days past instead of what's ahead. For that very reason alone, it might be my favorite to-date. Get it HERE.

Pepetz

August 30, 2011 - by baykiddead
One of my favorite maxisms is, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." The Pepetz paper toy project is a perfect example of such wisdom. Based upon a very simple design, they've offered up a blank canvas for your vision and a place to showcase it. There are no rules, however you see fit to get your creativity onto the template is cool with them.

Marko Zubak is at it Again

August 29, 2011 - by baykiddead
Paper toy icon Marko Zubak né Yebomaycu, has released yet another series. This one is entitled Peña, and if these toys signal a trend from the mind of Marko, things are about to get crazy. The shape and style of these figures push past a boundry leaving me aghast and in awe at the same time. The color and pattern is pure, but that shape...

Dr. Who Paper Toys

August 29, 2011 - by baykiddead
Ryan Hall is a man possessed. By Dr. Who. It's a passion he grew up with, starting from the first moment he laid eyes on the program as a child. And I know he's not the only one. But he just might be the only one who labours at his desk for hours cutting pieces of card stock into the tiny details that re-create the characters and scenes that have inspired him all these years.

Shin Tanaka's Latest Bear

August 29, 2011 - by baykiddead
It's one of the first things I do in the morning, even before I get coffee. I check the status of Shin Tanaka's site to see if anything new has been released. It's a bit manic, I know, but there are few things worse [relative to collecting paper toys, to put it in perspective] than having to be reminded of a toy you can not have. You see, Shin has a nasty habit of pulling the carpet out from under those of us who have made it a point to get their hands on whatever he makes available. One minute it's there for the mouse click, free for all, and the next minte it's gone.
