The Museum of Modern Art has announced it will be showing Edvard Munch's The Scream for six months. Purchased by collector Leon Black for $119.9 million, the pastel on board is the most expensive artwork ever sold & the only version still in private hands. The other three versions remain in Norway.

MoMA director Glenn Lowry has said "As an iconic image, The Scream has garnered worldwide attention for its stark portrayal of the human condition. For the Museum's visitors, this will be a rare opportunity to see this extraordinary work of art."

It's an uncomfortable image, one that has come to symbolize anxiety and possible madness.  The Scream will be hang alongside of Munch's prints from MoMA's permanent collection until April 29, 2013.
