As part of the Complex Summer Vacation, which places emphasis on artists experiencing creating art outside of the studio, our fellow New Yorker Shawna X sought influence from the textures of sand and the shadows cast upon them in southern New Mexico. With the aide of the Adobe Creative Cloud, Shawna X reinterprets all the sights as an abstract expressionist piece that was presented as a light box installation, an illuminated objet d'art that was unveiled in the middle of White Sands National Monument at sunset. To view part of her process, inspiration, and the completed work, please visit Complex's page where there is a video unveiling the piece to the world.
