I've loved the film since I saw it one day on ITV when I was about 5 - back then it was a great story of rabbits in peril and surviving. Now i've read the book, I also get the allegorical stuff about religion, war, the environment. Yeah, the film animation looks horribly dated, but that's part of it's charm. The intro around the rabbit myth is still powerful and moving.

"All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies. And whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first, they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warren. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people will never be destroyed."

How genius? So good, it even made Art Garfunkel seem cool. I loved the film so much I made my parents take me to the real Watership Down when I was a kid during the school holidays!
