Went to see this on Friday night and i've not been so moved by a film in years - probably since Eternal Sunshine or All the Real Girls. Even if you're not a Joy Division fan it's worth seeing for the way it looks, the lack of judgement of his actions
Quite apart from the way it looks - the monochrome bleakness of northern England (okay Nottingham pretending to be Manchester), it's the acting that blew me away. Sam Riley is stunning as Ian Curtis and Sam Morton is equally brilliant as Deborah Curtis (who's book the film is based on). The gig scenes were filmed live with the actors all playing the instruments and offer a glimpse into what Joy Division must have been like.
If you only see one film this year, make it this one.
