Thanks to Elizabeth Ito for pointing this one out. Sayama Forest that inspired the utter genius that is "Tonari no Totoro" (My Neighbour Totoro) is under threat from urban development. Ironic given how much of Miyazaki's films are based around myths and stories about nature and the balance between the natural and man.

 

 


 

So go visit http://totoroforestproject.org/ and read all about it and view the work. More than 200 artists are donating work to a charity auction, including Elizabeth who has made the awesome sculpture below. Other participants include Ashley Wood, Jeff Pidgeon, Mari Inukai and my favourite Yoko Tanaka.
