So Kidrobot is revealing a few plush items by Jeremyville and Frank Kozik and as usual Paul B is proclaiming them as "the best plush ever " in his own inimitable way. So that got me thinking is plush becoming more 'acceptable' to the art toy/collector market? I mean to my mind it always has been but with KR now pushing more of it's own plush creations since the Doughnuts, I wonder if this is the start of the plush explosion in the 'scene' or just KR switching things up a little, which I definitely welcome.
Whatever their reason, I did find Paul's blog post most amusing...particularly when you've had David Horvath doing his thing so well for so long and the likes of Shawnimal (new piece "Love Pants Jr." pictured above) always making some of most consistently amazing and loveable plush creations.
Is the Love Bunny the best plush ever? Of course it comes down to personal taste, but on first glance they both looked like a Disney Store bargain bin item. No real clue as to who designed it, no real feeling totally lacking in chracter or an aestethic to make me care. In the end it was just a lump of material. That's where there's a line in plush between the average and the genuinely interesting and it's one that many people cross time and again without realising it.
Shawn's new piece Love Pants Jr. is available now for just $15! Share the love at: http://shop.shawnimals.com/collections/plush-handmade/products/love-pants-jr
