I've been in two minds about blogging this since I saw the pictures of the new Amanda Visell Log Stool, mainly because I love Amanda's style and I also admire KR for moving into the 'homewares' space with some interesting sculptural pieces begun by the Labbit stool.

The problem is whereas on paper this concept should be so full of win it hurts, its execution sucks. And here's why IMO: Okay it's 17" of fibreglass but for $300 I was expecting more than a standard stool shape, some poorly executed 'wood' effect, a fragile looking leaf and a smiley face. It may look awesome it a play room but will look less so once your kid has decided to see how flexible that stalk and leaf are.

But crucially, if Kidrobot is so very concerned about "greening" itself (a motivation apparently behind moving to Boulder, Colorado) how does this fit that vision? There's plenty of spare wood around as a by product of other processes so why not make a log stool out of something called 'wood'? Is that such a strange notion? Then have each one hand engraved by Amanda (rather than some pad printing on the back) and all of a sudden $300 seems like a great price for a unique sculptural piece that also saves a wood by product from going to waste.
