Last Thursday evening marked the opening of Breaking & Entering at New York’s Pop Gallery. The opening showcased what is evidently a culmination of work by the duo UR New York [URNY], comprised of artists Mike “2Esae” Baca and Fernando “Ski” Romero. Despite only recently having met the duo in person a few weeks ago, their works have not gone unnoticed. The two artists, whose foundation is based on graffiti, can be found all over New York and other parts of the country.

Although both artists show serious can control, the works included in their latest show display various techniques, including; stenciling, silk-screening, photography, and more, on surfaces beyond a standard canvas. Each piece embodied what their very name represents: New York. Purveyors of the works will find that these two fellas know the city like the back of their hands, and do an amazing job of highlighting the nooks and crannies of the city beyond stereotypical tourists' spots. As my eyes traveled from the Lower East Side to Midtown, to Brooklyn and the Bronx, I kept wishing that friends from out of town would visit so I could take them on a visual tour through their works.

While walking through the spacious gallery packed with family, friends and supporters of all walks of life; I quickly gathered that the two gentlemen have not only garnered a large fan base; but they’ve established a familial feeling with their supporters. Although it was evident from their speech during the opening that this show was clearly the “making it” dream coming true; the guys stayed humbled and appreciative. Check out some opening night photos below.
