Yeah, I'm a total Hesher. I found Black Sabbath when I was 14 and suddenly no other music counted. And even though I don't really listen to Heavy Metal too much anymore, it's still a part of me. I know it's corny but that's what it is alright? So being a headbanger on the DL, I get extra happy when I see stuff like this. There is an artist named Ben Venom who makes Heavy Metal Quilts. Yes he does!

I can take my All -Things - Metal - Collector friend AND his grandmother to one of Ben's shows. Both of them would find something they can appreciate from these quilts and embroidered pieces.

This is what Ben Venom has to say about his art: "I'm interested in juxtaposing traditional handmade crafts with one of the more extreme musical genres, Heavy Metal. My work can be described as a collision of Iron Maiden Metal Ballads with the outrageous stage antics of Ozzy Osbourne. Serious, yet attempting to take on a B movie Horror film style where even the beasts of Metal need a warm blanket to sleep with. The question remains....Can I play with madness?"

This denim jacket is embroidered.

I think these pieces have an awesome sense of humor to them and the Metal music scene needs to laugh at itself more often.

Most pieces pictured here are made with Heavy Metal tees, but some are made from denim.

Guerrero Galley in San Francisco is showing "I Call The Shots" by Ben Venom through July 7th. If you're in the Bay Area go take a look .
