Retro/Grade is one of the more inventive games due out in near future, allowing PlayStation 3 owners to play a fresh take on a space shooter using an optional plastic guitar -- the same ones used for games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Essentially, you play as a spaceship traveling backwards in time, and you'll strum the guitar while switching between lanes to "unshoot" bullets to maintain the time continuum.

It's also playable with a standard controller, but considering the lapse of instument-based music games in the last couple years, Retro/Grade is as good a reason as any to drag out the old faux six-string. And it'll be out sooner than later, as developer 24 Caret Games revealed on the PlayStation.Blog late last week that the downloadable game will be out on August 21. For more on this curious concoction, check out the trailer below.
