Ok, so I havent actually seen this movie yet, but I'm super excited about it. It's art, it's HARDCORE nerdy and I want to live inside of whatever universe allowed this movie to get made. Here's the synopsis - Tim Jenison, a video software guru from I'm not exactly sure where, who happens to be friends with Penn Jillete (of Penn & Teller fame), explained to Penn that he figured out how Vermeer really made his paintings. Penn was looking for an adult contemporary concept to save him from the new daddy doldrums and decided to make a movie out of this exploratory process (now pronounced PRO-cess in my mind because I watch too much Canadian TV, I mean the HG channel). It's actually directed by Teller.
After about a year or so, I'm not actually sure the time frame, Tim figures out how to reporduce the exact color of an object in pigment using a mirror in a modified camera obscura and reproduces an exact Vermeer, having never before painted in his life. Holy ART NERD shit! There are some overtones of secret knowledge passed down through guild guarded handshakes over the centuries, it get's my inner Illuminati Free Mason all hot and bothered. So, I cant wait to see it and it's an excuse to have an adult contemporary evening myself! Word.
