Here is another great reason to be excited about 3D printing. Burlesque performer Dita Von Teese modeled the very first 100% 3D printed dress at the Ace Hotel in NYC! This amazing dress was made specifically for Dita and it consists of 17 individually moving pieces that are held together by 3,000 joints. Made from hardened powdered nylon that allows for movement, the dress was lacquered black and adorned with 13,000 black Swarovski crystals. The hollow components of the dress allow it to remain extraordinarily light weight at 11.5 lbs. Designed on an iPad by architect Francis Bitonti and fashion designer Michael Schmidt, the 3D dress certainly does not want for style as it is gorgeous.
