Can't say I'm particularly knowledgeable in the sport of curling, it seems it would involve a lot of beer drinking, but i'm sure that's just my imagination. This does not, however, effect my real enjoyment of these figures.
Designed and modeled by Fabrice Le Nezet, today he told us a little bit about the process of making them.
"I designed and modeled these characters myself, and then a prototyping company produced the 3D print. The result was great, but I had to smooth every piece by hand using sand paper, which took me a long long time... I then had to create two part silicone molds for each shape which was really so sticky and dirty!. Finally I was able to cast several of my characters in polyurethane (even more dirty, don't do it in your bathroom!)."
"The process was painful as I was learning every step of the process. By trade I am director and designer, so this was very new to me. Because of this I made lots of mistakes, and lots of hours lost... but I although learned a lot."
There is no denying that the look of these figures is very reminiscent of Michael Laus iconic vinyl pieces, and i love that these take that direction.
Fabrice is looking for a company to take on these figures into full production, and my hope is that they get picked up soon. In the mean time i hope he continues to self produce these figures so that we can all add them to our collections!
