Holy ghost Batman! This is the art of Laurie Lipton. Her carnival of Death series is perfect to kick off October. It's all pencil, cross hatch, and an unimagineable amount of time. Her work pulls from 17th century Dutch masters but certainly has a voice of it's own. The detail in each piece is so incredibly layered and complex, one can't help but sit and analyze each pencil stroke. It's mesmerizing.

If you happen to be near by be sure to drop by the Last Rites Gallery to see The Carnival of Death show in all its gloriously macabre detail. The show runs October 1 to October 23, 2011.
